Sara Flaherty qualified as a teacher from Swansea Metropolitan University (UK) in 1997 and has dedicated her career to teaching young children ever since. She spent 17 years teaching in a small village school in Swansea, South Wales, before moving to Dubai, where she taught for the next 12 years. With 28 years of experience teaching Early Years and Primary-aged children, she continues to find great joy in the creativity, energy, and rewards of working with young learners. Sara’s passion lies in Early Years education, where she thrives in creating nurturing, engaging, and stimulating learning environments that encourage children to grow in confidence and independence. This year marks an exciting new chapter as she joins the British International School of Chicago, Lincoln Park. The EYFS curriculum provides children with opportunities to explore all seven areas of learning through purposeful play, critical thinking, and problem-solving, allowing every child to learn and develop at their own pace in a happy and supportive environment. Sara is delighted and privileged to begin her teaching journey in the United States and looks forward to continuing to grow both personally and professionally as part of the British International School of Chicago, Lincoln Park community. She is very much looking forward to meeting her new class and their families and getting to know everyone as they begin this exciting journey together. Outside of school, Sara enjoys spending time with friends and family, drawing, reading, swimming, and participating in voluntary work.
