Mr. Mitchell

Dean is delighted to be joining the British International School of Chicago, Lincoln Park as the class teacher of the Tenacious Tigers in Year 5. He will be moving from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, in the UK this August and cannot wait to fully immerse himself in the school community and explore everything Chicago has to offer. Having qualified as a teacher in 2021, he has worked in an outstanding mainstream school in his hometown, teaching both Year 5 and Year 6. He prides himself on nurturing each child’s individuality, fostering curiosity, and building confidence to take risks in their learning. He has supported pupils’ academic progress, helping them build strong foundations across the curriculum. This year, he particularly enjoyed teaching Year 6 topics such as World War II, the Titanic, and Migration through History and Geography. Alongside classroom teaching, he has coached school sports teams, where he has seen teamwork, resilience, and perseverance transfer into the classroom, positively impacting pupils’ self-esteem, confidence, motivation, and academic achievement. Outside of school, he enjoys keeping fit by going to the gym and going for runs. Another passion of his is football (soccer). Until this year, he had been a season ticket holder at Watford FC for 25 years, and he is looking forward to filling that void by attending as many live sporting events as possible. He is also excited to explore Chicago’s neighborhoods, museums, and lakefront, and to discover his favorite spots across the city. He looks forward to getting to know all of the children and families and having a fantastic year together.
