Math Wins! Secondary grabbed several awards at two Math competitions.

ICTM State Math Contest

Students grabbed two first-place finishes, plus other impressive placements, at the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) State Math Contest. The contest recognizes outstanding achievement across topics like algebra, geometry and calculus.

Well done to Vanya, Jackie, Oliver, Madeline, Theo, Kate, Vishwam, Christina, Megan, Cynthia and Emre!

Results:
  • First Place, Algebra 1: Emre (Year 10)
  • Second Place, Algebra 1 Team
  • First Place, 2-Person Team: Emre (Year 10) and Vanya  (Year 11)
  • Fifth Place, 8-Person Team

At the competition, hosted by University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the students met up with former Bulldog Jacob. Jacob is in his second year at the university and chatted with students about college life.

UKMT Intermediate Math Challenge

Secondary students earned 27 awards in the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Intermediate Math Contest! Thousands of students from more than 30 countries compete in the contest each year. In just one hour, students are tasked with answering 25 multiple choice questions, which are marked by UKMT. The top 40% of scorers receive a Gold, Silver or Bronze Certificate.

Results:
  • Gold Certificate winners are Oliver (Year 11), Emre (Year 10) and Adam (Year 9).
  • Silver Certificate winners are Michael, Christina and Vanya (Year 11); and Sidharth, Bella, Dayton and Fay-Ling (Year 9)
  • Bronze Certificate winners are Jackie, Megan and Rafael (Year 11); Cole, Michael, Ramman, Nikolas, Varun, Jason, Rojaun and Marissa (Year 10); and Alex, Sabrina, Drew and Sumair (Year 9)
  • Oliver, Adam, Sidharth and Bella were among the top 5,500 scorers worldwide and qualified for the Kangaroo Competition. Bella achieved a Merit in this round, landing in the top 25% of scorers!
  • Emre was among the top 500 scorers in Year 10 worldwide and qualified for the Cayley Olympiad. He achieved a Distinction in this round, landing in the top 100 scorers!
