2020-21 Re-Opening of BISC-SL Today is the final day of the current academic year, and so we are now looking ahead and will be planning throughout the summer. With this being an unprecedented year, I am sure that your family has questions about the re-opening of the school. 

We are thrilled to welcome your family to the BISC-SL community, and look forward to welcoming your child for the 2020-21 year. 

Today is the final day of the current academic year, and so we are now looking ahead and will be planning throughout the summer. With this being an unprecedented year, I am sure that your family has questions about the re-opening of the school. 

Yesterday afternoon, the State released their guidance for schools regarding reopening after the summer break. The document was jointly written by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), and provides wide-ranging protocols for schools to adhere to during Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan. While the school has already done much work behind the scenes, it was not possible to produce a concrete re-opening plan without knowing what the State would mandate us to do (or not do). Now that we have this information we can begin to write our plan, ready to share with families long before we reopen.

What we can definitely say at this present moment is the following:

• Provided we are still in Phase 4, we will be reopening as planned on August 24, 2020.
• While we will be a physical school again, we will initially continue to provide some level of virtual schooling too.
• We recognize that returning to school will be viewed differently by each family (and for different reasons) and are happy to be as flexible as possible regarding in-person attendance.

Your thoughts and views as families are important to us. We have sent a  brief and basic survey to every family. We are well aware that we are asking questions BEFORE we have shared a detailed plan with you, but this is because we want to factor your thoughts into the plan. The results of this survey will give us ballpark figures regarding uptake for various aspects of BISC-SL in the fall and will form an integral part of our planning. If you will have more than one child at the school, please complete a separate questionnaire for each child (as your answers may vary from child to child).
