Introducing Firefly: A New Home for Learning, Progress, and School Communication

Introducing Firefly: A New Home for Learning, Progress, and School Communication - Introducing Firefly A New Home for Learning Progress and School Communication
This year, BISC-SL launched Firefly, a new platform designed to bring homework, assessment, progress tracking, and school communication together in one place for Secondary families. Learn how Firefly gives parents greater visibility into their child's learning journey, supports student independence and reflection, and strengthens the connection between home and school through more timely, transparent communication.

This academic year, we launched Firefly, our new secondary school platform for homework, assessment, and communication. More than just a place to manage assignments, Firefly is becoming a central hub that connects students, parents, and the wider BISC-SL community, making it easier than ever to stay informed, engaged, and connected to school life.

(Primary parents, this one isn't for you. Seesaw remains the platform for your child's class.)

A clearer window into your child's learning

Firefly gives you a real-time view of your child's learning journey, not just the highlights. You can see homework as it's assigned, including instructions, resources, due dates, and completed submissions. Feedback appears as teachers enter it, rather than waiting for a report card at the end of the term.

You'll also be able to explore Learning Journeys that show both what your child is learning now and where they're headed next. From the first topics in Year 7 to IB Diploma examinations in Year 13, Firefly helps families understand how learning connects and progresses over time.

See progress as it happens

A single grade only tells part of the story. Firefly helps you see the bigger picture.

By tracking performance over time, you can spot meaningful trends: growing confidence in a challenging subject, steadily improving assessment results, or consistent effort being recognized by teachers. Just as importantly, you'll be able to distinguish between a genuine concern worth discussing and the occasional off day that every student experiences.

A new way we're strengthening communication

In addition to academic information, you'll find key milestones, important deadlines, enrichment opportunities, leadership roles, and recognition of student achievements.

Whether it's Honor Societies, Tri-M, student leadership positions, or major IB and IGCSE deadlines, Firefly brings together the information that matters most in one easy-to-access place.

Our goal is simple: fewer missed messages, greater transparency, and stronger connections between school and home.

Supporting independence and self-reflection

This also supports one of our key academic priorities: metacognition, helping students think more deliberately about how they learn.

When students can see all their assignments, deadlines, feedback, and progress in one place, they're better equipped to plan ahead, manage their time, and reflect on their performance. Over time, they begin to identify their own strengths, challenges, and learning habits rather than relying solely on parents or teachers to point them out.

Family conversations remain one of the most powerful influences on student success. Firefly gives parents and students a shared starting point for those conversations, making it easier to celebrate achievements, tackle challenges, and support growth together.
