Twenty of our dedicated Duke of Edinburgh IA participants - eight Bronze and twelve Silver students - embarked on their practice Adventurous Journey to Chongming Island. Over two days, the students cycled an impressive 89km, developing resilience, teamwork and independence along the way.
The journey was not just about covering the distance; students refined their navigation skills, making real-time route adjustments to reach their checkpoints successfully. They also embraced the challenge of setting up camp for the night, improving their camp craft and teamwork as they pitched tents and prepared their own meals.
Despite some minor setbacks - two students took minor tumbles (without injury) and one bicycle suffered a puncture - the group demonstrated great problem-solving skills and perseverance, quickly getting back on track.
This practice journey was an essential step in preparing for their qualifying expedition, giving students a chance to experience the physical and mental challenges of an adventurous journey whilst building their confidence and self-sufficiency. The determination and enthusiasm shown by all involved were truly commendable, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements.
We look forward to supporting them as they continue their Duke of Edinburgh IA journey and take on their qualifying expedition at the end of the month!
