British International School Hosts Runner Pursuing ‘Forrest Gump’-Style Epic Challenge Jim Plunkett-Cole will visit BISW as part of his 20,000 mile educational run-challenge adventure across America to tackle sedentary lifestyles and the global obesity epidemic in children and adults.

BISW is very excited for our upcoming visit with Jim Plunkett-Cole, a runner from the UK who has embarked on an incredible adventure that will see him emulating the epic run of fictional character Forrest Gump.

Jim started his journey on October 1 this year, with the goal of running 20,000 miles throughout America over three years. Jim will engage with thousands of children in schools along the route, highlighting the importance of a healthy lifestyle and promoting the benefits of daily exercise and good nutrition in the fight against childhood obesity.

Visiting major cities across the USA, Jim arrives in Washington on 14 February to lead an educational assembly and participate in a series of ‘Talk and Runs’ with elementary students from ages 7 to 11.

Another key driver for Jim is to motivate and inspire youth to overcome personal challenges. As an adult with Asperger Syndrome, Jim is passionate about raising awareness that conditions on the autism spectrum do not need to be viewed negatively.

“We want our children to be ambitious for themselves, their community and our world.  It is wonderful that we will have the opportunity to learn what has motivated Jim ‘Gump’ in person at BISW,” says Ian Piper, Principal at BISW. “I am sure that our inquisitive primary students will ask searching questions to find out what drives him to be so ambitious in his goals and what differences he has made.”
