Our British early years curriculum
Our 2 to 5-year-olds follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. At the British International School of Kuala Lumpur (BSKL), the early years is split into three age groups:
- Pre-nursery (age 2)
- Nursery (age 3)
- Reception (age 4)
At this formative stage in their education, our teachers will guide your child through seven key learning and development areas:
- Communication and language
- Physical development
- Personal, social, and emotional development
- Literacy
- Maths
- Understanding the world
- Expressive arts and design
Learning through play
At our international pre-school, we encourage learning through play. We know children learn best when they’re happy, engaged, and motivated, which is why we offer a broad range of opportunities that both captivate and challenge.
A typical day involves socialising, discussion, questions and answers, and reasoning, alongside storytelling, reading, simple maths, and learning rhymes. Your child will get moving in our shaded playgrounds, swimming pool, and pitches. They’ll also enjoy specialist lessons in music and modern languages.
Guided by our specialist early years teachers and teaching assistants, your child will have lots of opportunities to take charge of how and what they learn, too. Our low student to teacher ratio will ensure your child gets the expert care, attention, and support they need to thrive.
