PRE-SCHOOL CURRICULUM AT THE BRITISH INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF KUALA LUMPUR

Our nurturing early years environment is the ideal place for our youngest children to learn, discover, and have fun. Your child will take part in a broad range of structured play activities and choose experiences they enjoy. This approach ensures each student hits key British and international pre-school milestones.

OUR BRITISH EARLY YEARS CURRICULUM

Our 2 to 5-year-olds follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. This is split into three age groups: Pre-nursery (age 2), Nursery (age 3), and Reception (age 4).

At this formative stage in their education at The British International School Kuala Lumpur (BSKL), our teachers will guide your child through seven EYFS learning and development areas.

LEARNING THROUGH PLAY

At our international pre-school, we encourage learning through play. We know children learn best when they’re happy, engaged, and motivated, which is why we offer a variety of opportunities that both captivate and challenge.

A typical day involves socialising, discussion, questions and answers, and reasoning, alongside storytelling, reading, simple maths, and rhyme. Your child will get moving in our shaded playgrounds, swimming pool, and pitches. They’ll also enjoy specialist music and modern languages lessons.

Our littlest learners’ days are packed with a purposefully planned mix of activities, which include languages, reading, music, and outdoor fun, as well as lots of socialising.

A warm welcome awaits at the entrance to our Early Years Centre, where your child will be greeted by our Head of Year. Every day starts with a focus on fun, as our learners solve puzzles, play games, build, and read.

Young linguists

Language learning brings so many benefits – especially at a young age. Our early years children enjoy 30 minutes of either Mandarin or Spanish each day, setting them up for success in our globalised world.

Outdoor adventures

After a healthy hot meal or tasty packed lunch, our children enjoy 30 minutes of exciting outdoor play. Clambering, running, jumping, sliding, and cycling – your child will get moving, supported by our early years experts.

It’s time to speak, listen, and learn! Our comprehensive phonics programme is adapted to each child’s needs, ensuring they develop the fundamental communication skills needed to flourish.

Getting hands-on

We love hands-on learning at BSKL. Your child will develop their motor and coordination skills, as they paint and sculpt, create and craft, and invent and experiment.
