Simon Head Message
Week 9, Term 2, 2025/2026

This week’s update is written by Mrs Victoria Stringer, Deputy Head of Primary.

This week has been an extraordinary celebration of literature, imagination and creativity throughout BSKL. What I love most about Book Week is the excitement you hear around the school — children recommending books to one another, talking passionately about characters and sharing favourite scenes. Book Week at BSKL is always a vibrant and memorable highlight of the year. It is a time for us to celebrate reading for pleasure and to nurture a lifelong love of books.

Developing children’s enjoyment of reading remains at the heart of what we do. Reading for pleasure has many benefits, including increased empathy, improved wellbeing, a deeper understanding of the world around us and stronger reading achievement.

One of the highlights of this year’s Book Week has been our primary competition: creating a magical object. We were absolutely blown away by the imagination and effort shown in the entries. From enchanted amulets and spellbinding wands to mysterious time-turners and powerful potions, our students demonstrated extraordinary creativity and storytelling flair. Each magical object came with its own unique history and special powers — a true testament to the imagination of our community.

Throughout the week, all classes have taken part in a range of book-themed activities within their classrooms. From creative writing inspired by favourite authors, to drama, poetry and illustration, children have immersed themselves in the magic of stories in many different ways. It has been wonderful to see books brought to life across the school. The children have created class doors themed around books. Don’t forget to check out your children’s class door. They are amazing.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the students, parents and staff who made Book Week such a resounding success. Your enthusiasm, creativity and love for reading have truly made this week unforgettable. We look forward to continuing to foster a rich culture of reading across BSKL for the rest of the year.

Warm regards,
