Simon Head Message
Week 13, Term 2, 2025/2026

We have made it to the end of Term 2 and what an exciting, energetic, and memorable term it has been.

The weeks have been full, fast-paced, and filled with opportunities for our children to grow, explore, and shine in so many ways.

While there has been excellent progress in the classroom, one area I particularly wanted to highlight is the incredible level of student involvement beyond academics.

I have been genuinely impressed by how many of our children have taken advantage of the wide range of competitions and opportunities available this term. For some, this has meant giving up time on weekends to prepare, practise, and participate. These experiences go far beyond the event itself, they build resilience, commitment, teamwork, and a sense of pride. Learning to manage time, persevere through challenges, and perform under pressure are life skills that will serve them long beyond their time at BSKL.

Our House competitions have also been a real highlight. It has been fantastic to see children across all year groups embracing these opportunities and producing truly outstanding, creative pieces of work. The pride in representing their House and contributing to a shared goal has been evident throughout the term.

Our student leadership programmes continue to go from strength to strength. Our Eco Lions led meaningful initiatives during Earth Week, helping to raise awareness and encourage more sustainable habits across the school. Our School Librarians have taken real ownership of our library spaces, ensuring they are welcoming, organised, and well cared for. Our Sports and Playground Leaders have shown great maturity in supporting younger children during events such as Sports Day and swim galas, demonstrating kindness, encouragement, and leadership in action. Meanwhile, our House Captains and Representatives have played a key role in driving House events forward, building enthusiasm and a strong sense of community.

What has impressed me most is how our students are not just participating but increasingly leading, organising, and shaping these experiences themselves. Through this, they are developing essential skills: communication, collaboration, problem-solving, creativity, and confidence. They are learning how to take initiative, how to work as part of a team, and how to lead with integrity.

It has also been wonderful to see so many children engaging with the Junior Duke Award, challenging themselves to develop new skills and step outside of their comfort zones. Our work with the HRIPHI Refugee School has been another powerful example of our students demonstrating empathy, compassion, and a genuine desire to make a difference. Events such as Tiger Day have further showcased the enthusiasm and spirit of our community, with students fully immersing themselves and contributing with energy and pride.

Importantly, these are the skills that, in my view, matter most. While academic outcomes are important, they are only one part of a much bigger picture. We want to develop young people who can think critically, ask questions, show empathy, and lead with purpose. Young people who are equipped not just to succeed, but to make a positive difference in the world around them.

These experiences are a vital part of what makes our school so special. They help us to develop well-rounded individuals who are not only academically capable, but also confident, compassionate, and ready to contribute positively to the world around them.

Finally, I would like to wish the very best of luck to all of our students who will be representing the school during the upcoming holidays. We have 9 students competing in a chess tournament in Bangsar on Saturday 4th, 29 students taking part in the World Scholars Cup on Tuesday–Wednesday 7th–8th, and 3 students competing in a Speed Cube tournament on Saturday 18th. We are incredibly proud of their commitment, courage, and ambition in putting themselves forward for these opportunities, and we look forward to hearing all about their experiences when they return. Go Lions!

Thank you, as always, for your continued support this term. I hope you all have a restful and enjoyable break, and we look forward to welcoming the children back for another exciting term ahead.

Warm regards,
