Walk All Over Cancer 2026 brings The British School of Tashkent community together

Students take part in Walk All Over Cancer

On 22 September, students, parents and staff at The British School of Tashkent united for the annual Walk All Over Cancer event. Held at our purpose-built campus for the first time, the occasion honoured the legacy of former Principal Mr David Kirkham and highlighted the importance of community, compassion and social responsibility in school life at BST.

One school, one community, one shared purpose

Walk All Over Cancer has become one of BST's most meaningful annual traditions. Established in memory of former Principal Mr David Kirkham, the event continues to honour his legacy of compassion and service by bringing our school community together to raise awareness of cancer and support those affected by the disease.

This year held particular significance. Following the opening of our purpose-built campus in August, our Early Years, Primary and Secondary communities are now together in one location, having previously been based across two separate campuses.

For the first time, Walk All Over Cancer took place in this shared environment, bringing students of different ages, their families and teachers together as one school community.

Reflecting on the occasion, Dr Andre Nel, Principal of The British School of Tashkent, said:

"This year's Walk All Over Cancer was particularly special as, for the first time, we were able to bring our entire school community together on one campus. Seeing our students, families and staff unite for such an important cause was a wonderful reminder of the values we share. I am incredibly proud of the compassion, generosity and sense of responsibility demonstrated by our community."

Coming together to make a difference

The generosity and enthusiasm of our school community were evident throughout the day, with students, parents and staff taking part in the charity walk and supporting a range of activities organised around the event.

Alongside our traditional charity merchandise sales and donations, this year's event featured a two-day bake sale, which proved particularly popular among students and families.

The event was held in support of the Ona Foundation, a Tashkent-based charitable organisation with which BST has an established relationship. Dedicated to helping women and children facing difficult circumstances, the foundation's work includes initiatives focused on healthcare, education and social welfare.

We were also delighted to welcome Ms Nodira, CEO of Tashkent International Clinic and Lead of the American Chamber of Commerce's CSR Projects, who addressed our school community at the opening of the event. Dr Sharon, a representative of the World Health Organization, also joined us during the occasion.

Together, these activities and contributions reflected the collective commitment of our school community to supporting meaningful causes and making a positive difference beyond the classroom.

Inspiring compassion and social responsibility beyond the classroom

At The British School of Tashkent, we believe an outstanding education extends beyond academic achievement. Alongside providing students with the knowledge and skills to succeed, we are committed to nurturing empathy, confidence and a sense of responsibility towards others.

Events such as Walk All Over Cancer provide valuable opportunities for students to experience these values in action. By participating alongside their teachers, friends and families, students develop a greater awareness of the challenges faced by others and the importance of contributing positively to their wider community.

This commitment extends throughout the school year. Initiatives such as our annual charity chess tournament, which also supports the Ona Foundation, and our winter charity drive provide further opportunities for students and families to come together in support of meaningful causes.

As part of Nord Anglia Education's global family of schools, BST is committed to developing internationally minded young people who recognise their ability to contribute positively to society, both locally and globally.

This year's Walk All Over Cancer was a powerful reflection of that philosophy, bringing our entire school community together around the shared values of compassion, generosity and social responsibility.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to every student, parent, member of staff and supporter who participated in or helped organise this year's event. Your enthusiasm, kindness and commitment continue to make Walk All Over Cancer such an important part of school life at BST.

Together, we continue to build a school community where caring for others and making a positive difference are at the heart of everything we do.
