BVIS HANOI OPEN DAY | 9.00-11.30AM, SATURDAY, 18 MAY 2024
DaYoon is an excellent science girl. She received two A stars in Maths and Chemistry and an A in Physics, which helped her successfully apply to the University of Edinburgh, majoring in Theoretical Physics.
The University of Edinburgh is currently ranked #5 UK and #16 worldwide (QS Ranking 2022). To apply to the Bachelor’s program - Theoretical Physics, students must have 3 A's in the A Level exam.
The University of Edinburgh is located in Edinburgh, UK.
Besides A Level results, students are required to write personal statements as a part of the application process. A good personal statement should show how interested students are in their chosen field and what skills they have to support that major; therefore, writing it can be challenging.
“I especially struggled to write my personal statement when I was applying to the universities because I had never thought of my true passion in academics, and I thought I did not have any extraordinary event in my life to share with others in my personal statement. I also could not decide on my major; I was wondering whether to choose physics or engineering. While I was preparing to write my personal statement, I read a book, ‘ Reality Is Not What It Seems’, which my father recommended to me. By reading that book, I found that I genuinely love the ideas and theories in physics. I further searched for the field of quantum mechanics, and I realized that I wanted to contribute to this field by developing quantum technologies.”
Accompany in her journey, Ms Usher – our University Counsellor and other teachers at BVIS Hanoi gave out all the support that she needed.
“Even though it was harder to focus on the online class, teachers put a lot of effort into smooth communication, so I could prepare for my A-level without any matters. In addition, while applying for universities, Ms Usher helped me by giving advice and preparing the documents needed. I appreciate her advice not only for my academics but also for my life. One of the biggest reasons why I enjoyed my school life is because of the teachers at BVIS. Thank you so much for your support!”
