When the BVIS Hanoi Boys’ Team lifted the HAC Championship trophy for the first time this year, it wasn’t just a sports victory – it was a powerful reminder of what young people discover about themselves through sport.
Their journey was not straightforward. After a solid win in the opening match, the boys battled through a tense overtime semi-final and then faced the tournament hosts – a team that had beaten them only days earlier. Falling behind early, they refused to give in. They pushed, regrouped, believed, and fought their way into overtime, where they finally claimed the HAC Championship title.
Energy, belief, resilience, teamwork. These qualities mattered far more than scores on a board.
And that is exactly what sport unlocks for students – on and off the court.

Many students start their sports journey unsure of their abilities. Some avoid certain activities. Some doubt whether they belong on a team. But sport has a unique way of proving something powerful:
Progress is possible. Confidence is earned. Effort pays off.
Each small improvement – a better pass, a stronger sprint, a quicker reaction – becomes evidence that they can grow. Over time, this confidence carries into schoolwork, relationships, and self-belief.
Research consistently shows that physical activity boosts:
• self-esteem
• motivation
• emotional regulation
• resilience
And importantly, these benefits come from participation, not perfection.

Sport gives young people opportunities to lead – often before they realise they’re ready. They learn to:
• support teammates
• communicate under pressure
• make quick decisions
• take responsibility for their role
• handle both success and setbacks with maturity
Every match, every training session is a lesson in collaboration and character. Students often discover leadership qualities they didn’t know they had – simply by showing up, trying, and caring about their team.

In a world where students face increasing academic pressure and digital distraction, sport provides something essential: a reset.
Exercise reduces stress, improves sleep, and creates mental clarity. Studies show that regular physical activity significantly decreases symptoms of anxiety and low mood.
For many students, sport is the anchor that keeps them balanced throughout the school year – a place to release tension, regain focus, and reconnect with themselves.

Beyond competition, sport creates community. Students form friendships across year groups. They develop trust, empathy, and shared identity. They experience the joy of being part of something larger than themselves.
And for many, sport becomes the one space where they feel completely free – free to try, free to grow, free to be themselves.

Whether it’s an HAC Championship win or a quiet personal milestone, sport helps young people realise:
• “I can do hard things.”
• “I can grow.”
• “I can lead.”
• “I belong.”
These lessons shape not only how students learn today, but who they will become tomorrow.
