Early Years children enjoyed taking part in their extra-curricular activities.

During our Language & Culture session, Year 1 children travelled through Spain, France and Iceland. They learned a Spanish song, practised naming fruits in French, and enjoyed an Icelandic dance. The children showed great enthusiasm, confidence, and curiosity while exploring different languages and cultures.

Year 2 students had a fantastic Sports Day this week! All the children were excited to participate and gave their absolute best in every activity. It was wonderful to see their happy faces and hear them cheering so enthusiastically for their friends.
Year 3 continued their exciting learning about chocolate by discovering where it comes from and how the Mayans were the first to use it. Through research and historical fiction, the children explored Mayan culture and learned how chocolate connects our past to the present.

In IPC, Year 4 are exploring Land, Sea and Sky through enquiry-based learning. This week, they classified animals using charts and group discussion, developing their scientific thinking, reasoning and teamwork.

Year 5 have been exploring poetry through rhyme and vowel sounds, applying these skills in their own poems and growing in confidence with creative expression.

In the topic ‘Here and now, there and then’, Year 6 students worked on their breakthrough canvas artworks, showing changes in times and cultures.

This weekend saw both our Girls and Boys Varsity teams taking to the courts in the end of season HAC tournament. The girls, playing at UNIS, lost their first game and then fought hard to come back into their playoff game, but eventually lost out to St. Pauls. The boys played an extremely competitive and fast moving game against Olympia in the first round and came out on top against one of the best teams in the competition. They went into the semi final against another very athletic and hard working Concordia team. They managed to grind out another win and moved onto the final against UNIS. They worked valiantly but fatigue and mistakes saw them lose out in the final seconds of the game after a strong comeback. Their grit, determination and teamwork were evident all day and irrelevant of the result we are extremely proud of the character, values and spirit that they showed.
We would like to thank all of the year 13s that played their last Basketball game for the Dragons and hope that they carry all that they have learned on the court with them as they move on to the next stage of their life!

Thu Lam, Phuong Thuy, Chieu Nghi, Ha My are founders of a wonderful project called “Winter for You”. They sold beautiful croched goods at the Christmas fair and raised a net total of 9,762 thousand VND. They donated the money back to the project to help fund a visit to the National Institute of Hematology. The founder and her volunteers used these funds to buy gift packages for the child patients which contained beanies(handmade), milk, books, and other essentials. In February, the team will make another trip to the Children’s Hospital, so we are selling crochet crafts at the Tet Sale to raise additional funds for the trip.

On Friday 16th January, 20 students left for their Duke of Edinburgh Award Qualifying expedition in Sapa. Over the three days, students have been assessed on their camp craft, cooking and navigation skills while enduring the physical challenge of hiking a total of 27km and needing carrying all of the equipment required to survive the 3 day challenge. Students also needed to consider their impact on the environment, leaving no trace and limiting their environmental footprint. To read more about their trip click HERE.
