Dear Champiteans,

What a difference a year makes! Whereas the last few months was a time for reflection, now we are looking forward to what the school year 21/22 will bring. We came back in August to find our Eco-School garden flourishing with tomatoes, melons, kale, salads of all shapes and sizes, not to mention our majestic sunflowers that lined our Forest School pathway. The herb garden is a delicious melting pot of chives, mint, rosemary and thyme, all herbs that the children tasted at lunchtime. Who would have guessed that sage would be so popular?!

Our APEC president, Helena Oswald, has been a brilliant source of support and has introduced our ‘Little Gardeners’ workshops at lunchtime along with other APEC members. With the students, they discover how plants grow in harmony with the seasons and are an invaluable source for the upkeep of our community space, rendering it a dynamic learning environment for all.

The Eco-School label is a much sought-after accreditation for any school and here at Nyon we have already earned this title twice over. As we must renew our accreditation again, we have decided to explore the theme of ‘Citizenship’ for our next school project. This means that, together, we will be exploring what it means for our staff and students to act consciously in order to positively impact our immediate environment, to then extend it to the community at large.

I would like to give a special mention to 3P teacher Sonia Bouvard who has graciously accepted to be our Eco-School coordinator this year and to Amélia da Silva, our 1P teacher and our Forest School coordinator. Both are key figures to the success of our projects. Wishing everyone a joyful school year – together.
