Dear Champiteans,
Welcome back to school!
The year is off to an optimistic start thanks to the opening of a brand-new building dedicated to early childhood education: the Village now welcomes students aged 3 to 6 in a learning environment tailored to their specific needs. This is the first real estate development on campus in 16 years and a message of confidence in the future, pending permanent construction.
As a counterbalance to turbulent geopolitical events, the theme for this new school year is compassion, from the Latin ‘cum patior’, ‘to suffer with’: rest assured, this does not mean suffering in reality but feeling empathy for those who suffer and offering them the attention and support that are the fundamental values of the College. It is not just a matter of feeling, but of taking action on a daily basis. The partnership with our neighbour TetraPak for the blood donation on 26 August was a good start.
We are welcoming more than 750 students at the start of the school year, including almost 130 boarders, which illustrates the openness of our Swiss school to the world, and 150 new students to integrate.
This summer, about 600 young people took advantage of summer camps offering sailing, tennis, leadership and other activities.
The School's senior leadership is stable. In the Dean's Office, Ms Rachel Southorn is taking over the reins of Years 9-10 + FLE, while Ms Maria Zufferey will devote 100% of her energy to school life and child protection. I am beginning my 11th school year in my role as servant to a brilliant community of students, colleagues and parents, with enthusiasm that is renewed each time.
Thank you for your trust.
