In March, students and boarders in Grades 7 to 12 enjoyed one of Collège Champittet’s most beloved traditions: our annual Ski Camp. For four magical days, our students explored the snowy peaks of Fiescheralp, a Swiss mountain resort in Valais.
With outdoor adventures and social activities, our Ski Camp programme offered something for everyone, both skiers and non-skiers alike. Skiers of all levels improved their technique with lessons provided by the Swiss Ski School, boosting their confidence in downhill racing. But our non-skiers could also enjoy the mountains, snow and fresh air through many other activities, including cross-country skiing, tobogganing, sledding and ice sculpting. Some of our students even gained new skills in mountain safety through training in avalanche victim search and rescue.
Indoor climbing and swimming were also available at the Fiesch Sport Resort, where our students and teachers stayed. In the village of Fiesch and the surrounding Swiss Alps, our campers shared many adventures and special experiences, including a disco night, a dodgeball tournament, ice skating, roasting marshmallows over a fire and – for the very brave – camping overnight in a tent at 2,000 metres altitude!
Our Ski Camp not only strengthened friendships among our campers – it also allowed our students and teachers to get to know each other better beyond the classroom. At Collège Champittet, camps, school excursions, expeditions abroad and humanitarian trips overseas are all valuable learning and bonding experiences that help to connect our community and to open the horizons of our students.
We wish to give special thanks to Mrs Rochat and her team, the sports teachers, and all the accompanying staff for their organisation of this year’s Ski Camp and dedication in caring for our students!
