Outstanding Contribution to Swimming
Omar Mohamed has always loved the water. From the age of 5 Omar had swimming lessons and by the age of 11 he was swimming in competitions at club level in Egypt. When moving to Qatar he joined H2O Swim Club. Since joining the club, Omar’s love of swimming has been evident and he is a very dedicated swimmer with a professional attitude and a likeable demeanour. When Omar first joined the club, he swam the 50 metre butterfly in 36 seconds. As an example of his growth as a swimmer and as a result of his dedication, Omar can now swim the 50 metre butterfly in 28 seconds. He also swam the 50 metre freestyle in 33 seconds, and can now swim it in 27 seconds.
Omar is totally committed to the sport. When new goals are set for him he continually strives to achieve them. Omar trains 6 days a week and spends 16 hours in the pool.
During his swimming career with H2O, Omar has participated in various competitions which include the Spring Cup and the Autumn Cup. These are Qatar’s top swimming competitions and Omar has been ranked as the 3rd best swimmer for his age range based on his times and the medal points he has accumulated in the races that he competed in.
The Dubai International Aquatic Championship and the World Cup are the most prestigious swimming events that attract swimmers from all regions. Olympic Swim Teams attend these events to qualify for major championships. The 2016 FINA World Cup was held in Qatar and Omar swam in the next lane to Chad Le Clos who has won Olympic gold and Silver medals for South Africa in the London and Rio De Janeiro Olympic Games. To swim in the same race and in the next lane to an Olympic champion has only fuelled Omar’s desire to represent Egypt at the Olympic Games in the future.
Omar has lots of outstanding potential and we hope that we can support him in the foreseeable future so that he canachieve his academic and swimming goals.
