Gharaffa Buzz | Monday 5 March Weekly news from Gharaffa Campus

Dear Parents,

Last week, Compass Gharaffa enjoyed another exciting week.

Book Week was celebrated on Thursday with a special assembly dedicated to the children’s learning and activities during the week.  It was great to see so many parents and grandparents in the audience.  Thank you to all the children and parents who engaged with the book week activities and especially the photograph competition.  Mr James received almost 100 photographs from families showing children reading in various locations – we had some superb entries.  Other children won a prize for piecing together a highly creative, book-themed hat. All the hats were superb.  We hope that your child had a fun week and is now inspired to read, read, read….!

Arabian Night was magnificent and a cultural experience for all the family.  As the sun slowly faded, we were entertained by Arabian sword dancers followed by children reciting verses from the Qu’ran.  A kema (tent) took centre stage on the field as the smell of bakor filled the air.  Children and parents queued to sample freshly cooked bread and crafts people demonstrated their skills in woodwork, basket weaving and henna painting. Other activities and entertainment included Arabic dancing and pony rides. For many families the highlight of the evening was the hot Arabian dishes which arrived partway through the evening. It was a truly Arabian experience which our children will remember for many years to follow.

Yesterday, the school’s Dutch children dressed up for the Dutch book week.  It was great to see all the wonderful costumes.  We hope the children enjoy the rest of the week.

Tomorrow night our school production ECA will be performing to parents.  ‘The Pirates of the Curry Bean have been rehearsing for months.  The dress rehearsal was very entertaining and funny, we are very much looking forward to the children’s performance tonight.  All our families are welcome.  The show starts at 5.30pm.

On Wednesday, the school will be hosting this month’s Friends of Compass School (FCS) meeting.  We have also asked Class Representatives to come along as the school is now preparing for the FCS Wake up and Shake up, Wellness Morning on Tuesday, 13 March.

FCS Wake up and Shake Up v3

Following the meeting, Rebbecca, the school’s FCS chairperson will contact parents with more information.

Next weekend, our Gharaffa athletes will be competing in the BSME games.  We wish the children the best of luck in this competition. More information will follow after this event.

Parents, could I please conclude by asking for your support with our Nord Anglia parents’ survey which the school sent out last week.  We always appreciate feedback from parents and would like to know how we are doing as a school.  The survey will take 10 to 15 minutes of your time.  Thank you in advance for your support.

Enjoy the rest of the week.

Kind regards,

Karen Wilson
