Gharaffa Year 1 | The Giraffes

The last few weeks has been a very busy time for Year 1 GD ‘The Giraffes’. In IPC, we have been learning about festivals and celebrations. The children have had a great fun finding out about properties, weddings and birthdays as well as more unusual celebrations, such as ‘La Tomatina’, which is a festival in Spain where people have a tomato throwing fight with each other! This has all been in preparation for our class party, to be held on Thursday. We have been busy making decorations, creating party games and a party food list.

In maths, we have been learning all about measure. We found out that you do not use a ruler to measure water, instead you can measure using cups or measuring cylinders. We worked together to find out what full, half full and empty would look like in a container. We then compared different amounts of water and ordered them from least to most.

In English, we have been reading traditional stories, such as Cinderella. We designed and then made a pair of slippers using different collage items. Afterwards, we wrote a description of the slippers, making sure we used adjectives to describe what they looked like.
