Madinat Khalifa Primary | Monday 19 November Weekly news from Madinat Khalifa Primary Campus.

Dear Parents,

An advantage of being part of Nord Anglia Education is the collaboration opportunities between the 56 schools as well as the partnerships with some world’s leading organisations. This has been particularly evident in recent weeks.

MIT

Before half term, we had the fantastic STEAM week, with students solving problems set by professors from MIT. Please see the class dojo page for photographs, videos and images of these inspiring activities – you will also see how the teacher’s kicked off the week in some style!

Julliard

Last week the MK Primary students and staff enjoyed learning Flamenco dance moves with Joshua Palmer from the Juilliard School. If you’d like to see 290 students dancing, clicking and stomping in unison please see our School Story on Class Dojo!

UNICEF

Our student council are busy planning for the Global challenge linked to UNICEF’s Sustainable Development Goal 16 ‘Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions’.  I’ll leave it Graham, our Head Boy, to explain…

At Compass International School, Madinat Khalifa, we have a Global Challenge plan called Staff Includation (Yes, we made up a word!) We will be including the extended staff (cleaners, maintenance and security) in activities so that the school feels more inclusive and fair… Activities like: optional lessons to improve their English, we will have nights where we get funds from events to buy food and drinks for staff and maybe even show a movie. Other things include finding out the staff’s birthdays and make cards and buying them special gifts. Some days, the student council members will come to help clean if they need us to. All these are to make sure that the support staff are appreciated for their work because they work hard to make sure students are well cared for every day. They deserve to be thanked or even said hi to and included as an equal part of the school. We look forward to seeing the changes in the school’s thoughtfulness after implementing these ideas.

Global Campus – Photographer of the Year

Please see the update from our Head Girl, Nada, concerning the Global Campus Photographer of the year competition…

For the past few months, there has been a competition called Photographer of the year. In this competition, the students were asked to take a photograph which was themed after goal sixteen (Peace, Justice and Strong institutions.) The students were also told to write a fifty-word description of why they chose this picture. After the students sent their photos to Mr. McArtney, the student leadership team decided on who the three winners would be on Wednesday in their meeting. The three winners received a trophy and the rest of the participants received a certificate for trying. Now we have all the wonderful pictures displayed on a board in our corridor.

There are many more unique opportunities planned for the rest of the year. We’ll be sure to keep you updated.

Have a wonderful week,

Jimmy Frawley, Head of Primary
