Gharaffa Buzz | Monday 25 February Weekly news from our Gharaffa Campus.

Dear Parents,

Anything is possible!  We proved that during last week’s STEAM days when the children presented the outcome of their Possibility Pyramids.

The children shared their Possibility Pyramid creations in Thursday’s assembly and in whole class presentations.  They had the opportunity to answer questions and reflect on their designs considering how their creations would influence the future.  The focus for the STEAM days was Superhumans, in some classes children talked about wearable technology which could have an impact on lifestyle.  Designs included, masks, belts and headbands with superpowers.  In one Year 1  classroom the children had designed accessories which would help with gardening.  In Year 2 and Year 3 the children tried to sell their products to parents in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ activity.  One class in particular, worked hard to sell their inventions to a panel of ‘dragons’, who quizzed the children about their inventions.  In Year 4B the children talked me through some of the games they had designed using Probability Pyramid pieces.  It was certainly creativity, innovation, enquiry and ‘being ambitious’ at its absolute best.  Well done to all the children and staff for all their hard work this week.  I’d also like to thank Ms Syed, STEAM leader for coordinating the days.

Last week, the Friends of Compass School (FCS) team met to discuss future whole school events, in particular the forthcoming pizza/movie afternoon.  Letters should now have been sent out to all families with tickets being sold on the playground week beginning 10 March.  If you would like your child to attend then please be informed that all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Over the past few months, our PE department have been preparing for the British International Schools of Qatar (BISQ) games which will take place at Aspire on Friday and Saturday between the hours of 9am and 5pm.  All families are welcome to attend in order to cheer on our Compass team.  Bring along a picnic and enjoy the day.  We wish our athletes the very best of luck. We know that we will be extremely proud of all our children and their successes.  Thank you to our dedicated PE team for preparing the students for the games.

Today the school is hosting Parent Consultations.  If you were unable to attend the meeting then please ensure that you make an appointment to meet with the class teacher in the next few days.  It is important that our teachers work in partnership with parents to ensure the best possible outcome for all the children.

Have a good week.

Kind regards,

Karen Wilson
