Dear Parents,

We have had many events taking place this week, with a real theme being celebration.

Throughout the week we were celebrating book week. Each morning began with every student in the primary being read to by the students in the secondary. There was break out reading throughout the corridors with all spaces being utilised. Further activities were organised throughout the week for secondary students. At break times, members of the English department took it in turns to read pieces of selected literature. All students participated in a guess the teacher book quiz, and the week was rounded off with students and staff dressing up as their favourite book character. We have enjoyed two local events in the space of a week. The Year 13s did a fantastic job in fundraising for, and organising their own masquerade ball at the W Hotel. On Thursday we also celebrated the end of the sporting season with the Sports Awards at the Intercontinental. It was a great opportunity for the students to be recognised by their coaches and their team mates. There was a lovely feel to the evening, with students going away, planning on organising a further summer ball to be enjoyed in term 3.

Students were also celebrated in the Praise Assembly this week. Students were awarded House Point certificates, the Be Ambitious awards, sporting trophies and their awards for the International Duke of Edinburgh award. There were presentations from the IB students who explained to the rest of the school about their CAS requirements – Community, Activity and Service. Jesse and Gabriel Wong also spoke to the school regarding their website they created for the Global Challenge. They informed us on the literacy rates of the world, and how they are doing their little bit to chip away at this. They design comics on different topics for others to enjoy. This can be viewed at jessegabrielcomics.com and students can also upload their own comics to share. They will be presenting on this in New York in the summer.

Last week, a letter went out advising that following guidelines from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, we are required to reduce the school hours during the Holy Month of Ramadan, starting at 08.00 and finishing at 13.00 promptly. These timings will come in to effect on the 5 May.
