Gharaffa Buzz | Monday 6 May Weekly news from Gharaffa campus.

Dear Parents,

As the temperature is now beginning to climb and we enter the Holy Month of Ramadan, the school continues to operate as usual with the only change being the school hours which have been slightly reduced.

We celebrate the wonderful world of literature on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. During our three book days, the children will be taking part in competitions, focusing on the work of authors and listening to stories read by parents and various teachers. We are very much looking forward to Thursday when we have asked all our children and staff to attend school dressed as a character from a book. Books will be on sale in the main entrance during the three days.

Last Thursday, the Arabic Team led a school Ramadan assembly which focussed on the spiritual meaning of Ramadan. Through short sketches, our Arabic children conveyed the true meaning of Ramadan. We listened to some beautiful music, powerful readings and messages from the Qu’ran. The students were true ambassadors for their faith. Well done to Mrs. Enaam, the Arabic team and children for all their hard work in preparation for Thursday’s assembly.

Thursday was the last day for Extra-Curricular Activities (ECAs). I was delighted to see Mr Pegrum’s Dance Troupe perform a special dance on Wednesday. The performance was attended by some very proud parents. Mr Mannings also held a special music ensemble at the end of the day which showcased our talented pianists. Parents were invited into the school to watch their child perform.

I would also like to congratulate our Year 5 and Year 6 Swim Teams who competed in the QPPSSA Swim Gala at Qatar Foundation last week. Both teams came in third place with the girls bringing home 29 medals and the boys 28 medals. On Tuesday, children from Years 1, 2 and 3 competed at Aspire in a boys’ football competition. The 2011 team came in third place and the 2012 team came in fifth place. We are extremely proud of all our students sporting achievements and once again thank the team of teachers for inspiring success in all our teams. If you would like to find out more about the school’s success in sports then there are two informative notice boards attached to the Morgan Sports Hall. Please take a look, I can guarantee that our parents will be impressed by our students’ achievements.

A quick reminder that all children need to be in school for a prompt start at 8am during Ramadan. The gates open at 7.30am with two members of staff on duty. Please ensure that children are collected promptly at the end of the school day. Thank you to all parents who continue to support the school’s expectations.

Our FCS are currently selling tickets for an Iftar Buffet which will be taking place on Thursday 16 May at QNCC. Tickets can be purchased at pick up and drop off and are being sold at a very reasonable price of QR25. We hope that you and your families will be able to join us for this event.

Please add another date to your diaries. On Tuesday, 14 May the school will be focusing on internet safety. There will be a half hour presentation to parents on Tuesday which should be very useful to all our parents. The session is being led by Zahra Syed, the school’s IT Coordinator.

I would like to end this week’s newsletter by congratulating Mr Andrew Pegrum, Year 1 teacher and Milepost Leader and his family as they celebrate the birth of their daughter, Brooke, and Balsam Al-Marri and her family for the birth of their little boy, Ibrahim. Two very lucky babies being born into two wonderful families.
