Our Year 5 students had the amazing opportunity to go on a four-day, three-night residential adventure in Malacca, Malaysia. The camp, spread over two weeks with two groups, included outdoor challenges, cultural experiences, and a lot of fun. It was all designed to help them build independence, resilience, and teamwork.

Despite the hot weather and some heavy tropical storms, the children showed great perseverance and enthusiasm. One of the highlights was stand-up paddleboarding on the lake, which tested their balance and stamina. Students learned how to paddleboard and enjoyed jumping into the water with happy shouts.

On land, students hiked up Bukit Batu Lebah, where they saw fascinating rock formations and enjoyed a fantastic view at the top. The hike ended in a crawl through a pitch-black cave—an adventurous (and slightly squishy!) experience. Ms Hunter had a particularly tricky time and almost got stuck!

The cultural activities gave students a taste of traditional Malaysian life. They loved making ondeh-ondeh (a sweet, chewy coconut treat) and playing traditional jungle games like coconut bowling and palm-leaf sledge racing. These activities brought out lots of laughter and helped them appreciate the local culture.

Students also learned important survival and campcraft skills, like building shelters, starting campfires, and lifesaving techniques in the water. These experiences helped them grow in confidence and independence while surrounded by the beautiful Malaysian jungle.

The Nomad Adventure team ran an engaging and safe programme. Their enthusiasm and care left a lasting impact, and it was clear from the heartfelt goodbyes how much the children connected with their leaders.

This residential experience was more than just a camp—it was a journey of growth. Our students returned feeling more independent, courageous, and connected to the world around them. It truly was a highlight of the Year 5 calendar. A big thank you to all the teachers and teaching assistants who went on this trip, as their support made this experience possible.
