Friday the 22nd of March, students from our 13IB class participated in an “environment cleanup” experience organised by CAS, spending an hour of their time on the Champittet campus and the nearby forest cleaning up plastic and other waste.
“I was surprised by how much plastic was under the ground. We had to do a lot of digging to find the larger pieces.”, commented Yuliya, a student who took part in the cleanup.
As part of the cleanup, the students also watched and reflected on videos about ocean cleanup and the multitude of “garbage floating islands”. This is part of a continuing effort at Champittet to not only inform students about the global waste crisis but also on how they can make a difference at home and at school.
“Overall, it was definitely eye-opening. I was really shocked, “noted Gaétan, 13 IB’s class delegate.
