Champittet reflects spirit of giving and compassion

Spirit of giving and compassion

The holidays are always a time for giving back at Collège Champittet. As part of our school year’s theme of “Compassion”, we are especially proud of our community’s efforts this December to make donations – including food, toys and blood – and fundraise for those in need, both near and far.

Donating toys and school supplies for children

Our parent association APEC did a marvellous job in organising a collection in December of gently used toys for EVAM. This organisation in Vaud provides assistance to asylum seekers, unaccompanied minors and other migrants in need.

In November, our Champittet students also came together to support underprivileged children through the Gift Box Project. Now in its 25th year, the Gift Box Project brings joy and hope to children in Eastern Europe who live well below the poverty line and, in many cases, have never received a gift before. Each of our participants prepared one unisex Gift Box or school backpack for a child aged 4 to 14.

Food bank donations and blood drive

Our community also brought in plenty of canned food, pasta, sugar, and other pantry necessities for Cartons de Coeur. This local non-profit association delivers food boxes and other crucial support to disadvantaged families and individuals.

We are also highly appreciative of our Champittet parents and staff members who volunteered to donate blood at the blood drive held at neighbouring Tetra Pak. Switzerland depends on donors to ensure that there is enough blood available at any given time, so each donation is truly a lifeline of support.

Spirit of giving: Advent Calendar and Christmas Market

In addition to the above initiatives, our Champittet students engaged in acts of kindness throughout December with our Reverse Advent Calendar. This creative spin on a holiday tradition encouraged our students to try a new gesture of compassion each day. Our calendar’s proposals ranged from bringing a can of food or bar of soap to school for donation, to paying someone a compliment or calling a family member to say hello. We are thrilled to see that our students enthusiastically embraced these suggestions, spreading warmth and good cheer among their peers and families.

Finally, our much-anticipated Christmas Market was a fantastic embodiment of the holiday spirit in action at Champittet. Bringing our community together over hot drinks, homemade treats, handcrafted items, and workshops, the event also gave us the chance to support a wonderful cause. All the funds we raised were donated to our Champittet Foundation school in Madagascar and to the Maison des Enfants.

Thank you to our entire Champittet community for your generosity and kindness!
