Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) projects At the Metropolitan School students in 11th and 12th grade complete their Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) projects, an essential part of the IB Diploma Program.

At the Metropolitan School students in 11th and 12th grade complete their Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) projects, an essential part of the IB Diploma Program. 

This program is design to enable students to enhance their personal and interpersonal development by learning through real-life experience. It provides them the opportunity to: 

  • demonstrate initiative, choosing the projects they are most passionate about demonstrate perseverance in carrying out their goals
  • develop skills in collaborative, problem solving and decision making
  • make a positive contribution to the community

Below are some of the projects our students have developed this year.

Book Drive in El Valle
Emilie B., Julie B., Ana Lucía C. and Nicole Y. have worked together to organize a large scale book drive around Panama City. Together they collected over 3,326 books which were later donated to various organizations including a library in El Valle. They held a special event at the library with literary activities they enjoyed with the children from the community.

"Huellitas de Navidad"
Passionate about animal welfare, Daniela M. organized "Huellitas de Navidad", a holiday fair focused on adopting pets. The fair not only helped dogs and cats get adoped, but included song and dancep erformances and a 5K run. This event included other volunteers from the MET and our local community.

Jewish community groups
Daniela G. organized and led multiple activities for a youth camp within the Jewish community in Panama to promote leadership, collaboration, create bonds between the campers and connect them with their faith. 

Poetry as a means of self expression in Brooklincito
Magdalena A. furthered her MYP Personal Project to continue working with children from Centro de Alcance Brooklincito, teaching children from at-risk neighborhoods to express themselves through poetry and short stories. 

"Working with them gives them the opportunity of self-expression through a positive and healthy medium". Through this experience Magdalena discovered her passion for working with and education high risk youth.

Autism Wave
Aimee and Andrew took their passion for surfing and used it to raise awareness for Autism and share their love for the sport with a special group of children. They worked together with the organization Autism Wave, and organized a group of ten volunteers from the MET. Volunteers were responsible for teaching the basics of surfing and how to feel comfortable in the water.

Indigenous Houses in Guatemala
Gianmarco M. spent his spring break in Río Dulce, Guatemala, building houses using local materials and techniques used by indigenous groups in the area - his biggest build so far!
