EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION: THE IB PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME (PYP)

At the MET’s Preschool in Panama City, our Early Childhood education program spans Nursery through Kindergarten. We follow the renowned Reggio Emilia philosophy, which places each child at the center of their learning. This innovative approach is underpinned by the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), which develops our young bilingual students’ love for learning in a nurturing environment.

Early Childhood education at MET Panama is informed by the Reggio Emilia approach, an innovative philosophy that values each child as strong, capable, and resilient, rich with wonder and knowledge.

The Reggio Emilia approach encourages play as a means of nurturing curiosity. Through a self-directed exploration of our Preschool in Panama City, our young learners build strong relationships with those around them, while developing their formative understanding in math, science, languages, society, technology, and physical education.

Students also explore global areas of study through the IB Primary Years Programme of Inquiry.

Our Preschool and Kindergarten class sizes are small, and lessons are taught by an internationally certificated teacher and teacher’s assistant. Our young children learn through play, exploration, experimentation, and investigation, which they lead themselves. To support our students’ growth, our open-plan classrooms have different areas where they can learn independently and collaboratively.

Learning in Early Childhood is fun-filled and exciting, as our students grow in confidence and explore the world around them.

As we make our way into the classroom, our energetic teachers greet us and help us settle in. We play while other classmates arrive and begin morning activities.

We have swim lessons from the age of three at the very start of school. We build our confidence as we learn swimming strokes and teamwork alongside our swim instructor, lifeguard, and PE teacher.

At lunch, we come together as a community and eat in small groups. We chat with friends and learn new skills together like using cutlery, trying new foods, serving our friends, or waiting our turn.
