Amenities on the Eastern Seaboard of Thailand

24 February 2015

Leaving your friends and family is hard enough, but often leaving your home town can be difficult too. The corner store that you buy bits and pieces from, the park across the road, the bakery which sells the most delicious bread; all these little things are hard to replicate.

Fortunately Pattaya and Rayong are two of the most expat friendly cities in South-East Asia with thousands of foreigners from around the world continuing to settle in the cities. With this diverse population brings all of those creature comforts from home.

Many supermarkets in Pattaya and Rayong are well-stocked with a large range of western goods available. Usually these goods are imported and therefore are no cheaper than at home, however, Thai products are great value for money and allow you to practice amazing Thai cooking for a fraction of the cost back home.

Of course restaurant and take-away dining options are not just limited to Thai food. Mexican, American, Australian, German and good old English Pub foods are readily available and if you can’t be bothered going out reliable delivery companies such as Door 2 Door Pattaya will bring it straight from the restaurant to your doorstep.

Central Festival Mall and many other smaller versions are scattered around the city providing customers with a vast range of shops and entertainment to part with their cash. 3 different cinemas with English speaking movies can be found in the tourist district as well as arcade games and a ten-pin bowling rink.

Thailand is also becoming synonymous with pampering and beautifying, with Pattaya home to many spa treatments, nail salons, hair dressers, Laundromats and tailors all within a quick walk of each other.

So if you are truly worried that Pattaya won’t have your favourite places, think again. In no time you will have so many more.

Maggie Elms is the chairwoman of the Parents Representative Group at Regents International School Pattaya

“Compared to many cities around the world, Pattaya has given my family the opportunity to take part in and experience different cultural and social aspects. As a mother of four, I have a wide range of ages that all find family entertainment within the city. My younger boys thoroughly enjoy central festival & numerous water parks. My older two children can also explore the city and encounter new culture perspectives with their friends.

From a mothers point of view there are many locations, restaurants and cafes available for dinner out with or without the family. My family and I have dined at many restaurants in Thailand and the local markets, all which have been delicious. Pattaya as a whole has a range of ethnicity and people that you can encounter every day. The location of the city has also opened up our abilities to travel to all the exotic islands close by.  Some of my most treasured memories are from my experiences living in Pattaya.”
