Being Ambitious helped me to accomplish my dream!

20 April 2016

Today I had the biggest surprise ever! I was astonished when I found out that I was a final winner in the short story competition on Global Campus.  I was totally overwhelmed with joy when our Assistant Head of Primary, Mrs Hannah Naowasuk, broke the news to me!

  • Gabriella - Global Campus - Regents Pattaya

When my teacher told me, back in Term 1, that we were doing a short story competition I thought it was just in Year 5 and that it was just between Regents students. I had no idea that my story would be nominated by Regents to proceed forward to the Global Campus judges.

In class we started by making a plan for our characters, setting and plot. We were told that it was important to remember the ambitious theme which needed to be sharp and to the point as we were only allowed to write 500 words.  I normally enjoy writing long pieces because I love describing things and, for anyone that knows me well, I do not keep things short (I like to procrastinate!) So, this competition was quite a challenge for me. I also felt a bit of pressure as I knew that I was competing against other people, which I often do in sport but I am not used to the academic pressure I felt this time. This was a new experience for me in writing.

Creativity is hard because in my eyes it should be about something that you have never seen or done before!  I now think that something can be creative even if you have experienced it before by putting it into words in a creative way; my perspective. My story was based on my experiences at FOBISIA in Beijing. Sport is a really important thing to me and when I do sport I am always ambitious so this was the perfect thing to write about!

Here is an extract from my story:

Meet Lindsay Brookeham, she’s a 15 year tomboy. She hates everything girlie and pink, she loves go-Karting and wrestling. She lives at a nice place called Bittle Water Resort in the calm, relaxing California surrounding. She always stays in constant motion, she very rarely takes time to enjoy the world because she’s always in a rush, or at least that’s what her mum says. She only has one dream… to make the FOBISIA Team.

If you like what you just read then please make sure you read my story on Global Campus. And if you like it even more when you read the full version then remember to vote for me to get the students’ choice award  so I can make Regents, and myself, even more proud. Instructions on how to vote or see the full version is easy: First, login to Moodle. Next, go into the Global Campus. Then, go to the English category and click on the ‘creative writing competition’ button. Scroll down and you shall see a title reading “Final winners”, click on Primary final winners and on the left hand side there are titles. Click on the one that says The FOBISIA Champ and enjoy the read! To vote for this story, you then need to return to the creative writing home page and press the ‘Primary vote’ button (orange colour)…it’s that easy! Please vote for me!
