The room was beautifully decorated and following a welcome address by Mr. Russell, staff, students and guests enjoyed the extensive buffet. This was followed by a speech for the class of 2016 given by Ms. Batty and Mr. Bolland which culminated in a “Nicksclusive” Rap. There were excellent musical performances from Mia Pu and Game, Sophie and Alysha and D.J. Aina, Game and Sung Woo. The awards for Prom Prince and Princess, Prom King and Queen, cutest couple and best dressed staff and students were announced with much delight. Tusnim and Laila surprised everyone by presenting Goodie bags to all the teachers and Graduating students. There were some excellent DJ sets from both Jo Jo and Karl and the evening was brilliantly MC’d by D.J and Scott, who gave us a great demonstration of how we’re meant to dance.
The evening concluded with a part comedic, part musical tribute – a rousing Proclaimers / Titanium Mash up on the part of Mr. Russell and Mr. McConnell. However, this did not detract from Mr. McConnell’s heartfelt closing remarks to Year 13 and Tusnim’s final emotional farewell hit home that this was the last time that the Class of 2016 would be together. Groups of students and staff then went their separate ways, some to continue the celebrations elsewhere, and others home to bed. It had been a long, emotional and tiring day.
