On Wednesday 13 March, Regents parents had the amazing opportunity to experience a delicious Korean cooking class; hosted by some of our Korean parents.

Parents received a short presentation on the dishes they were going to be preparing. One of our Korean mothers explained that the two dishes being prepared, Bulgogi and Kimchi, are typical Korean dishes that have many variations. The ones they were making were called Seoul Bulgogi and Mat Kimchi.

Next came the demonstration and explanation of how to make these foods. Parents watched closely as the Korean parents prepared these two dishes while explaining how to make them.

It really shows that curiosity and willingness to learn does not end outside the classroom - and even parents of all ages can still benefit from attending school!

With the guidance of the Korean parents, and with the help of a recipe, the others in the class tried to make these dishes themselves – everyone now feeling hungry after smelling the spices.  Of course, their favourite part was sampling their meals at the end of the session!

Parents are invited regularly to attend our cooking classes, with the foods of so many different nationalities promoted in this way. Last January, we were thrilled to host our Chinese themed cooking class, whilst last month it was delicious Indian food, thanks to our Indian parents teaching others their home recipes.

This would not be possible without our fantastic Parents Supporters Group (PSG); who organise these events and enjoy the connections and community they form for our parents. These classes also benefit from the brand-new ovens and cooking facilities in our STEAM Machine rooms, which also offers parents a chance to see for themselves the learning resources that their children access, and how this supports their learning.

Today’s class may sound like it’s simply cooking but bringing people together from so many different nationalities and cultures, to share in one communal event is an important activity to broaden our horizons. Parents are a special part of the Regents community and activities like this help to bring people together for a fun activity.
