A blog written by our students in the Marketing and Media group

Before the end of term, Secondary students at Regents spent a week exploring personal development and responsibility through the Round Square's six ‘IDEALS’ during IDEALS in Action Week through various trips and activities. This blog is about the Laos arts and crafts trip.

During this week students were able to develop their appreciation of diversity, inventiveness and compassion specifically for Arts and Crafts week.

A group of our young creative adventurers went to Laos! On their first day, they scoped out the local area and experienced residents making paper, carving sculptures and weaving stunning tapestries. They also explored a night market where they saw items made locally on display.

Perched alongside the Mekong river the students have been able to experience creating dyes from natural ingredients, weaving intricate patterns with silk, listening to folktales and eating stone baked pizza. The students said the day was "interesting and had the right amount of tiring”. They also were able to help Lao students to learn English and trekked to the beautiful waterfall enjoying sketching, paddling and having a picnic.

The trip to Laos was an amazing learning experience, to watch and learn from the local artists was deeply fascinating for our students. During the trip they explored more deeply into appreciation of diversity, inventiveness, and compassion. Overall the Regents students who went to Laos for IDEALS Week explored a very special and unique personal development.
