We consider all applicants carefully, looking at reports from their existing schools and requesting references wherever possible. We ask all students entering at Year 4 and above to take some tests to ascertain their levels of language and maths.
Our curriculum is based on age, and we prefer to place students in the year group that is appropriate for their birth date. Experience tells us that students do better at school and develop emotionally when they are with friends and classmates of similar ages. We recognise that movement between school systems is not always straightforward, and we are always ready to discuss placement carefully with parents where there are extenuating circumstances.
We are used to working with children whose first language is not English. We'll talk with parents about the individual language needs of a child, and may recommend that they follow a modified curriculum for a while.
For students joining the school for IGCSE and IB years, we need to look carefully at what they have studied previously. Often, our IB Co-ordinator will talk with parents to look at individual needs.
We aim to be inclusive, and, as with all good schools, we have the ability to work effectively with children with mild learning difficulties. We will consider individual learning needs closely, unfortunately we may not be able to accommodate all cases and will discuss our decision with you in full.
