MAKING A DIFFERENCE

SOCIAL PURPOSE

At NAIS Pudong, we believe everyone can make a difference. That’s why we’re dedicated to giving our students an understanding of the issues that face our local and global communities, helping them develop the skills to make the world a better place.

PROVIDING LOCAL SUPPORT

Our Local Service activities are a way for our students to help others in our Shanghai community, making lifelong friends along the way.

From working with the children of Migrant workers to raising funds and awareness for local charities like Home Sweet Home, Habitat for Humanity and Shanghai Sunrise, there are many ways our students can make a difference in this city we call home.

UNICEF AS A DRIVING FORCE

As well as our own School Service Programme, our partnership with UNICEF challenges our students to make a difference locally and globally. The inspiring Social Impact Programme introduces students to the UN Sustainable Development 2030 agenda. Each year, UNICEF and Nord Anglia invite our students to work on a Global Challenge, with themes as wide-ranging as clean energy and peace & justice, to think of innovative solutions to some of the world’s biggest problems.

Students studying for their IBDP can even apply to go to the Global Summit in New York, with the chance to speak at the UN’s High Level Political Forum.

CHANGING THE WORLD

Global Service completes the Service Programme with students taking part in local Chinese projects every year  including:

Rebuilding houses in areas affected by natural disasters

Renovating schools and houses

Teaching in schools across rural China

Working in orphanages and on conservation projects

To date, our students have completed tasks in Yangshou, Guizhou, Hainan, Xiamen, Rongshui and Kangding. These valuable projects kickstart student awareness of issues affecting the global community and give them a chance to make positive contributions to a society in need.

Since 2014 we have sent students to a community in Tanzania to take part in community service projects to improve the quality of life for its residents.

Students studying for their IB Diploma must complete the core element of CAS (Creative, Action, Service) where Service activities are about giving something back to the local community.
