A small army of Community Group volunteers spent months organising decorations, market vendors and performances for this much-loved event, and a much larger army of school families and friends attended, ensuring a hugely successful day.
Our school choirs were out in force, providing a beautiful accompaniment to the day, while our CCA ballet students also entertained the crowd, showing off the routines they have been working on this term.
Although it’s a very busy time for him, Santa showed up as scheduled and many families took the opportunity to have their Santa portrait taken. Many thanks to the Marriott City Centre for their sponsorship of this year’s Santa photos.
There were looks of sheer delight and anticipation on the faces of our smallest students as they waited patiently to enter the “kids only” Santa’s Secret Shop to buy mum and dad a special something. Thank you to our cute and energetic “elves” who kept the little ones amused as they waited.
The student Christmas card stall also proved extremely popular. It was hard to resist the beautiful card packs featuring our students’ artwork, as well as the intricately designed cards handmade by BISS Pudong students and teachers, along with students from the local migrant school, as part of a special pre-Christmas co-curricular activity. If you missed out, there are still some cards available and they will be for sale this Thursday 4th December at the Christmas Carol Concert.
The market hall (B Block sports hall) was a hive of activity with almost 60 vendors displaying a wide array of goods, from home decorations to traditional holiday food, clothing and fashion accessories to children’s toys. We were very pleased to invite many of the charities our school supports and each came along with excellent gift ideas to fundraise.
Mild and fine weather meant many families enjoyed an alfresco lunch (to recharge the batteries after all that shopping) of the traditional turkey, mince pies and mulled wine, along as some not-so-traditional favourites.
We rounded off the day with the huge Christmas Raffle prize draw, skillfully presented by Principal Patrick Horne and an assortment of very eager young helpers. There were 60 prizes in all, and first prize of a barbecue for 50 people from Jasmine’s Steakhouse went to Andrew Todd. Congratulations!
Thanks to Community Group Vice Chairperson, Heike Springmann, and her team of parent volunteers, without whom this event would not have been possible.
Our festive season continues this week, with the Christmas Carol Concert on Thursday from 7pm. Don’t miss it!
