Continuing BISS Pudong’s strong performance in the IB examinations, this year’s cohort achieved an impressive Average Point Score (APS) of 34, placing the school among the leading IB schools worldwide. Principal Mr Patrick Horne welcomed the results, the best in the school’s history, saying, “This is an excellent set of results, the culmination of many years of hard work by the students and teachers at BISS Pudong. The strong average score represents not only impressive individual results, but also a high degree of achievement across the whole year group.”
With a score of 42, Laura Nikodem achieved the highest result and will take her place at the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), University of London. Laura will be joined at LSE by classmate You Na Park who scored 41 and confirmed her unconditional offer from the university. Both students achieved the highest possible grade of 7 in each of their three Higher Level subjects.
While this year’s world average score is yet to be announced, 90 percent of students achieved on or above the 2013 world average of 29.
The IB is recognised worldwide for its focus on academic excellence across a broad range of academic areas, combined with the three core requirements of Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay and Community, Action, Service (CAS) which are designed to challenge and broaden students’ educational experience.
Mr Horne continues, “At BISS Pudong we are committed to ensuring all students receive a well-rounded education through the subjects but also crucially through our excellent core programme of TOK, extended essay and CAS.”
In a sign of the encouragement and support for language learning at BISS Pudong, almost a quarter of students received the Bilingual IB Diploma, a truly wonderful achievement. These included students who studied a Self-Taught Language as part of their course. Mr Horne says, “We are committed to providing the support students require to undertake these self-taught subjects which is very much in keeping with the IBO’s (International Baccalaureate Organisation) ethos of international mindedness and multilingualism.”
BISS Pudong students have received unconditional and conditional offers to some of the world’s best universities including the London School of Economics, Manchester University and the Royal College of Music.
Mr Horne concludes, “I would like to congratulate the students on achieving their IB diplomas and on moving on to some of the world’s leading universities.”
