The Baobei Foundation provides lifesaving medical care for orphans from around China, and just this week a representative spoke to our Community Group’s monthly meeting and accepted a donation of 23,000RMB. Evelin Tai is Director of Orphan Care at the Baobei Foundation and she explained the role the foundation plays in improving the orphans’ lives, “Donations are used for life-saving surgeries and aftercare for Chinese orphaned children born with severe gastrointestinal and neurological birth defects. Due to Baobei’s high volunteer participation, Baobei has the lowest daily childcare costs of any orphan work in Shanghai.”
The Community Group and our students will be notified when the funds are allocated to the care of a child or children and will be able to visit them and assist in a variety of ways, including with transport around Shanghai. At the Community Group meeting, many of those attending signed up to assist this life-changing charity.
A further 25,000RMB was this week gratefully accepted by the Heart 2 Heart Foundation to pay for another lifesaving heart surgery for a child in need. Upon receipt of the donation, the family of the child who will now be able to receive their operation will be notified. Heart 2 Heart Executive Director (Volunteer), Karen Carrington said, “It will make them so happy! Thank you so much for wanting to give this gift of life!”
This follows on from a donation made at the end of last year, with funds raised by students and through community events, which saw three children benefit from successful heart surgeries.
One of our Project Week partners, the Bright Connection in Sanya will also receive 10,000RMB towards important resources for their centre which assists disabled children, providing remedial care and housing. As our Year 9 students continue their fundraising for Project Week, this amount will further bolster NAIS Pudong support for this organization bringing important services to their community.
A final and very generous donation of 15,000RMB was made to purchase outdoor PA equipment for use at school events.
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the many fundraising events throughout the year.
