SISAC D1 and D2 End-of-Season Volleyball Tournaments

22 October 2015

Last weekend saw our U19 and D2 boys’ and D1 and D2 girls’ teams playing in the SISAC Cup at Concordia, as well as the D1 boys play in the Plate tournament at SAS Puxi.

Our D1 girls played three games. They lost their quarter final to SAS Puxi in a close game that our girls should and could have won but lost 2 sets to 1. Their second game was against SAS Pudong and again they lost in three sets by 2 sets to 1. In their last game of the day they played YCIS Puxi and they won the game in two sets, finishing the tournament in 7th place. It has been a good season for the girls’ team and we feel sure they will improve as a team next year.

The D2 girls’ team was second in its league and faced SCIS Hongqiao in the quarter finals. They won the game in two sets and were looking strong and the team was really well organized. In the semi-final, they faced SAS Puxi and, in a close game, they were beaten by a very good team in two sets. Their 3rd and 4th place play-off game saw the girls come out strong against SCIS Pudong and they won the game by dominating throughout and ended the tournament in 3rd place.

The D2 boys were second in their league and they faced Livingston school. The team played really well and won the game in 2 sets. The semi-final was a very close affair against SCIS Hongqiao. The boys lost the first set but played really well in the second set and won the set to take it to the third. They lost the third set 15 – 8. This meant they had to play the 3rd & 4th place play-off game against SAS Puxi. In a close game the boys’ team ran out winners by 2 sets to 1, finishing the tournament in 3rd place.

The D1 boys team were 5th in their league and had to enter plate tournament at SAS Puxi. They had a bye to the semi-final where they faced Dulwich College. In a close game they won by 2 sets to 1. They entered the final against the home team, SAS Puxi. In the first set, the boys lost by 25-23 in a set they should have won; the second set they won 25 – 20 and they went into the third set confident they could finish the game. The third set was so close and at 14 – 13 we thought we had won, however, an umpire decision that the ball followed by the SAS Puxi boys serving well gave SAS Puxi the final set 18-16.  For the D1 boys it was a season of what ifs.

Overall we are very proud of how well our volleyball teams performed in the SISAC tournaments and all the teams played well throughout the season. The level of volleyball at NAIS Pudong can only get better and with the quality of players and the enthusiasm of the coaches I see good things ahead for the teams. I want to thank Mrs. Howell, Miss Sparkes and Mr. Keenan for all their hard work preparing, coaching and always been there for the players throughout the season. Every boy and girl who represented the NAIS Pudong volleyball teams in SISAC and ACAMIS have been a credit to the school.
