Book Cover Competition
Does the cover to your favourite book do it justice? In this competition, we are looking for fresh designs for books covers. There will be prizes for a winner from each Phase. Entries should be handed in to the Learning Centre by Friday 6th March.
Dress up day
On Friday 6th March we will be holding a dress up day for all pupils. Dress up as a book character or author and join in with the parade! There will be a prize for the most innovative and original costume in each year group and a parade from 10:30.
Story-time
Every lunchtime and playtime, someone will be telling a story in the Learning Centre. This will include senior members of staff that pupils perhaps don’t see so often, as well as a range of Middle School students reading stories in their home languages. Middle and Upper school pupils will also be reading to a class of Early Years or Infant children on Tuesday 3rd March.
Book swap
Got any pre-loved books that you want to pass on? On Monday 2nd March, there will be a Book Swap in the Dance Studio (B block). Bring in any books that you have enjoyed and want to swap for someone else’s book. Bring the books to B105 (Ms. Preston’s classroom) by 8:40 on Monday 2nd March to receive tokens for using to ‘buy’ books on Monday lunchtime in the Dance Studio.
Mystery Reader Competition
Whose is dotty about Roald Dahl? Which teacher can’t get enough of Horrid Henry? Check out the Mystery Reader Competition in the Learning Centre, where you have to guess the BISS staff member busy reading behind each book cover! One winner will be drawn from all correct entries.
Book Fair
On Wednesday 4th, Thursday 5th and Friday 6th March Shanghai Foreign Language Booksellers will be in the foyer of C block selling new books. Bring along up to 200 RMB for the chance to get some book titles hot off the press!
Donations for books
As part of our school’s ‘Making a Difference’ promise, we will be fundraising this week. We are aiming to raise 20000 RMB for the ‘Read to Feed’ sponsored read project. Get involved and you could also win prizes for your class for reading the most books or raising the most money!
Genre Tables and Scavenger Hunt
This week in the Learning Centre, your class will be taking part in either a scavenger hunt or investigating the genre tables. During the scavenger hunt you will follow and solve a trail of clues that lead from book to book. Can you find the golden book at the end?
