The event celebrates 10 of the best IB short films made last year by Film students from around Shanghai, working with Cities of Love producers and filmmakers. Held at the Sennheiser Shanghai Concert Hall on Peoples Square, the Gala was a tremendous success and students were inspired by the prominence of the student film community in Shanghai.
Year 12 student, Aimee Burlamacchi, attended and says the event opened her eyes to the possibilities of her course over the next two years. She explains, “The gala was a great opportunity to see where our film course may take us. It was very interesting to see the films and the different techniques and shots used by the student filmmakers. It has even inspired the group I’m working with filming our own silent short film to think of some different techniques.”
Shanghai, I Love You is a feature length collection of short films, currently being produced here in Shanghai by esteemed producer Emmanuel Benbihy. Our students have the opportunity to be involved in the production, which follows the success of Paris J’Taime and New York, I Love You. Cities of Love is a social enterprise, with the mission to “Spread love in the city through film while supporting the emergence of a new generation of local filmmakers.” In other countries, Cities of Love has been successful in bringing many stars to the big stage, including Bradley Cooper, who was discovered through New York, I Love You.
It is fantastic that our students get the chance, as filmmakers, writers, directors and performers to be recognised on such a world stage. We are continuing to connect our students with Shanghai, I Love You filmmakers to provide extra tuition from the filmmakers. Beginning this Saturday, the first professional workshop will be held in Puxi to give the IB students a chance to create Films of their own for consideration at next year’s black tie gala!
