NAIS Tigers U19 Boys D1 SISAC Volleyball Plate Tournament
The D1 Boys travelled to Shanghai American School Puxi on Saturday the 15th October to take part in the D1 Plate competition. The team performed exceptionally well on the day. The first game was against Hangzhou and it was a close encounter. The boys managed to win two sets to one; the final set was won by 15pts to 8pts. Man of the match was awarded to Jesus Arias in year 13, his passing from the libero position was superb.
In the second game against SCIS Pudong, the team demonstrated great team spirit fighting for every point. The game went to a final third set and the boys hit the ball extremely well. They also showed great defensive qualities at the net. The third set was won by two points 15-13 in our favour. The man of the match was Jack Bailey.
The team now faced SMIC Pudong in the final. The team had exerted a lot of energy in the previous match and got off to quite a slow start in the first set against SMIC losing 25 - 20pts. In the second set they struggled with their spiking and found it difficult to find any rhythm and lost momentum leading to them losing the final set 25pts to 11pts. The boys were naturally very disappointed with this result although they should be very proud of themselves for reaching the final and playing some excellent volleyball during the day.
The team comprised: Joseph Chong, 11A, Jesus Arias, 13C, Joaquin Rios Saldarriaga, 12A, Oleg Grunda, 13 A, Yoav Shimoni, 13A, Giorgio Wu, 13C, Thomas Wallace, 10B and Jack Bailey 13C. They will next compete in ACAMIS Volleyball in Shanghai The tournament takes place over three days and will be attended by a number of teams from all over Asia. This will be a fantastic opportunity for our boys to develop their skills further and we wish them all the best for the tournament.
NAIS Tigers U19 Girls D1 SISAC Volleyball Plate Tournament
The Girls started off their SISAC Volleyball D1 Plate competition with a tough match against SAS Puxi. A slow start off the blocks meant that they lost the first set. The second set saw a different team with a different attitude and the girls won it convincingly. Unfortunately, however, the third set proved to be too close to call, with our girls narrowly losing out by 2 points to lose the game overall. Having lost the first game meant they could only get 5th place.
Demoralised but not destroyed, the girls showed what a fantastic attitude and work rate they had by winning their next two games against the French school and SMIC convincingly. Not the day they quite expected, nonetheless, the girls were positive and in good spirits throughout and demonstrated the true tiger spirit. It was a pleasure to step in and be their coach for a day. Well done girls!
NAIS Tigers U19 Boys D2 SISAC Volleyball Cup Tournament
The Boys team knew they had a tough quarterfinal game against Suzhou Singapore International School who have not lost a game all season. The first set was really tight and the boys were playing really well with their serves, digging and setting and even spiking with power over the net. At 23 each we lost the serve and SSIS served to win the first set. The second set the boys were outplayed and even thought they did their best they were beaten by the better team 25 – 16 to lose 2 sets to nil.
Their second game against SMIC was again a game they led but forever allowed SMIC to get into the game. We won the first set 25 – 23; lost the second set 25 – 21 and in the third set, the boys were so determined to win that they outplayed the SMIC team to win 15 – 10. The 5th and 6th play off the game with SCIS Hong Qiao was a fantastic game with both teams playing great volleyball. We won the first set 25 – 23 from been loosing 23 at one time. The second set we were at one stage 10 points ahead and SCIS Hong Qiao played really well and won 25 – 22. The third set again we witnessed great volleyball. SCIS Hong Qiao eventually won 15 – 12. The boys deserve immense praise for their hard work throughout the season. Well done to all who played and represented the Tigers with the right spirit.
NAIS Tigers U19 Boys D2 SISAC Volleyball Cup Tournament
The D2 girls travelled to Concordia to compete in the End of Season Cup competition.
Having finished 4th in the East the girls were very pleased to have earned a place in the Cup but knew there would be some tough games ahead of them. First up was SAS Puxi who were undefeated in the West. They displayed some excellent skills but the power serves of Puxi were just too much for them. The Pudong girls showed their tiger spirit but were unfortunately beaten in 2 sets.
Next up were Livingston. This was to be a very close and exciting match. Down to the wire in both sets but the tigers held themselves well and remain unphased by the close match. A two set win sent them through to the 5th/6th playoff.
Meeting SAS Pudong for the second time this season we gave the eagles a run for their money. After being been badly defeated earlier in the season the girls were ready for the challenge. And they certainly rose to it. A very close first set which the tigers narrowly lost showed The tigers at their best. Some of the best performances of the season were displayed in the nail-biting finish.
The girls had a fantastic season and should be proud of all their achievements. It was a tough season in terms of scheduling but they rose to every challenge that they faced and displayed the Tiger courage at every opportunity. Well done girls
D2 Girls Volleyball Squad: Sammi Huang (Captain) Sarah Thornton, Lovisa Lindquist, Lara Niggli, Josi Ebeling, Gabrielle Hanafiah, Antonia Arbert, Eunice, Phoebe Hed, Francesca Chiam.
NAIS Tigers U19 Girls Netball Teams SISAC Tournament
This weekend the D1 and D2 Netball Teams travelled to BISS Puxi to compete in the SISAC Netball Finals Tournament.
It was a great afternoon with an impressive standard of netball demonstrated throughout.
In the pool stages the D1 team sailed through in first place, due to some exceptionally focused and driven performances.
The D2 team had two very strong games and after the first settled and improved their accuracy to come through second in their pool.
This meant that our two teams faced each other in the quarter-finals and even though a difficult challenge, the girls approached the game extremely professionally.
The D1 team came away with the win which put the D1’s in the final against Dulwich and the D2’s in the 3rd/4th place match against BISS Puxi.
The D2’s started the match a little nervous and unfortunately were not able to pull back the lead that BISS Puxi had gained in the first few minutes, and therefore came away with 4th place.
The D1’s had an outstanding game against Dulwich and at the end of the 1st quarter were up by one. It was a game that batted backward and forwards and really could’ve gone either way. The girls played exceptionally well in defence and created numerous opportunities for the attack. However, a couple of crucial errors were made at vital stages and Dulwich capitalised on this to win by 3 goals.
A good end to the season and great preparation for ACAMIS next week!
NAIS Tiger Sharks Swim Meet
The NAIS Pudong Tigersharks dived into the pool on Saturday 15th and 16th October showing fantastic potential for the season ahead. For the first meet of the swim season, the team spirit and performances from all swimmers were absolutely amazing. On Saturday, our younger students aged 10 and Under competed and for some of them it was their first meet. They're excitement was buzzing and with the amazing support of our older students who were gaining experience for the CAS element for their IB or for the International award ensured the smooth running and team spirit was maintained throughout. All students achieved personal bests (PB’s) and many heat winners ribbons were being collected within the NAIS squad, however, particular mention needs to go to Megan Watson, Henry Dexter and Sophie Tsui who swam exceptionally well. On Sunday our more experienced older students entered the pool, although for some it was their first meet and again setting the bar high for the rest of the season. A phenomenal amount of PB’s being broken and heat winners medals were flowing. Outstanding performances from Myong Kyu Han, Riccardo Perone, Mia Dajani-Keenan and Nian Er Tan. With this amazing start, the coming season looks to be an extremely positive one as we move forward to the next meet on the 26th November at Dulwich Suzhou.
Good luck to our NAIS Tigers U19 Boys Rugby 7s team and our U19 NAIS Tigers Netball teams in the ACAMIS tournaments hosted at NAIS Pudong on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th October.
