Year 1 Week Ahead Information

18 November 2016

An overview of the week ahead in Year 1

  • This week in Year 1

Information and Reminders

Thank you for all of the Circus Maximus' which have been sent to school already. We have all really enjoyed hearing how the children have built their Roman circus and we can't wait to see the finished projects next Monday when the homework is due.

Also, our current topic 'The Circus is Coming to Town' is almost finished so we will be hosting our Year 1 exit point on Wednesday 23rd of November (23/11/16). This is a chance for parents to come to our school and hear from the children about their learning during this topic. There will be activities led by the children for you to take part in and examples of their work displayed. Parents in Class 1A may attend from 9.00 to 9.30. Parents in Class 1B may attend from 9.30 to 10 and parents in Class 1C may attend from 10 to 10.30. Following this, classes from different year groups will come to visit as well. Please come along if you have the time!

We will be sending home new jigsaw words and phonics sounds for your children to practice. We will upload a video to our Class Dojo pages explaining how you could use these resources to help your child at home.

Please can you ensure your child is dressed appropriately in winter uniform. There should be no brightly coloured layers, tights or shoes. You can check the requirements of the winter uniform in your child’s Learning Journal. Please also ensure your child has a warm coat so they are able to play outside during breaktimes.

On P.E. days your child should arrive at school wearing their school uniform, then change into P.E. clothes, then change back into school uniform.

In English next week, the children will be preparing for our Year 1 exit point. They will be planning what they want to say when their parents and family visit and they will then write a recount about the exit point on Thursday and Friday. The children will learn the 'five w's' of recount writing:  where, what, when, why and how.

The students will continue our learning about time next week. They will be taught how to read and set a clock to the hour and to half past the hour. The children will look at both analogue and digital clocks and try to find matching pairs. They will also learn the days of the week by singing this song:

In topic, we will be concluding our learning about the circus. We will see that the circus has been reopened without animals and with a patched big top! We will talk about what we enjoyed about our learning and what we know about the circus which we didn't know when we started our topic. Hopefully the NAIS Circus will be safe and happy for every human and animal without our help!
