In our English lessons this week we will be continuing with the Roald Dahl story “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. We will begin the week by looking at the use of adventurous vocabulary and how selecting certain words can have an impact on the reader. We will then apply these skills to writing a description of Willy Wonka and his Chocolate Room. Towards the end of the week we will be focussing on the use of sentence starters and giving our opinions about the text. We will finish the week by using all of our learnt skills and writing a letter in the role of Charlie.
Guided Reading: This week in Guided Reading we will be focusing on the use of non-fiction texts. We will be further developing our skills on retrieving information from non-fiction texts and recording this information.
This week in maths we will be continuing our work around multiplying numbers. We will be consolidating our skills and understanding of multiplying 3 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers using the formal method. Towards the end of the week we will be exploring problem solving, word problems and missing number questions involving multiplying 3 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers.
This week in topic we will become Scientists. We will be observing the effects of heat on chocolate. We will conduct and experiment, look at fair testing and write a scientific investigation that includes our results and conclusions. As well as this we will be exploring which type of chocolate has the lowest melting point. During this experiment we will be looking at the importance of hypothesising and reviewing our thoughts at the end of the week.
