When we arrived, all the children were seated around the walls of the room and a huge, amazing, delicious spread of food (which NAIS Pudong contributed to), was laid out in the middle of the room on a huge long table. The Ayis were working so hard and bringing in continuous plates of food. The children were so excited when one of our longstanding volunteers Chenyi Lum bought out a set of Chinese hats and placed them on the children’s heads. They thought this was great fun! The noise, laughter and smiles coming from all the children as they ate their special CNY dinner, washed down with a treat of lemonade, were wonderful. This event is probably the most important day in the lives of these children of Hui Xin and, of course, for the Ayis and Head Mistress Luo also.
Due to the timing and place of this event, as well as an important school meeting held the same night, many of our amazing weekly volunteers from NAIS Pudong could not attend this party but had great joy in seeing some photos of the happy kids and hearing the stories of the night. A huge thank you to those who could make it and who brought their children along to participate. Also to Chenyi Lum for being the main organiser once again.
It was a great pleasure to be able to walk around with Head Mistress Mrs Luo and hand out the Hongbaos to each of the ayis working throughout the orphanage. They were all very delighted at this gesture that NAIS Pudong once again supported.
If there is anyone out there who would like to join our great bunch of volunteers who help out once a week at Hui Xin, please send an email to email@example.com">firstname.lastname@example.org . We are always in need of new volunteers to help out. It is only about 1.5 hours once a week to play and have fun with some amazing kids and the rewards are incredible. So please if you have an extra few hours on a Thursday morning, please come join our group.
