New Student
We also welcome a new student to Year 9. Carrie is from Taiwan and her buddy Valerie and the others in the tutor group have been helping her settle in to her first week.
Global Campus
During Guidance the students have been working on the latest Global Campus Challenge. The Rube Goldberg Challenge was launched before CNY holidays. This is a whole school competition that involves inventing a machine that can run on its own for at least 1 minute (It’s like the machines in Wallace & Grommit). Students have been working in groups to come up with a machine of their own. They have impressed their tutors with their creativity and designs. Some examples are included.
Summer Performing Arts Camp with Juilliard
Applications are now open for the 2016 Summer Performing Arts Summer Programme with Juilliard. The programme, taking place from July 9-22 at our Nord Anglia Education school in Geneva, is a unique opportunity for children to enjoy one-to-one sessions along with group lessons with Juilliard artists and guests. Through the Classroom Keyhole
Mandarin
In Year 9 mandarin classes, students are learning stationery or ordering food in Chinese. They watched FaceBook founder Mark Zuckerberg wish happy Lunar New Year in Chinese, and found Mark’s favorite Chinese food is roast duck (kao ya) , and the company ate Chinese food for celebrating CNY.
PE
PE Year 9 girls have just finished fitness as an activity in lessons. They experienced a range of fitness options including step aerobics, Pilates, circuit training and core workouts. The students really enjoyed the activity and the hope is that they continue to participate in healthy active activities in their own time. (See photos attached)
German
Miss Ford's German class is revising the future tense, which is the final part of what they need in order to write a really good postcard text in German. This will form the basis of their upcoming assessment in February, so they have lots of chance to practice now.
History
Mr Dawson's class is well into their studies into Nazi Germany. The amazing and ambitious 9C are currently analysing the factors of Hitler's rise to power. This is a topic that students often study at IB level; however, I know 9C can handle it!
