19 February 2016

First of all, a happy Chinese New Year to you all and I hope you had a fantastic holiday! We certainly celebrated in style at NAIS Pudong in welcoming in the Year of the Monkey before half term. Along with the whole school events that were put on, the Secondary school hosted our own CNY assembly, involving many performances from our talented students.

With the start of the second half term sees preparation of the assessment cycle for Term 2. The assessment period in all subjects will commence on Wednesday 24th February and end on Friday 4th March. Year 7 students have been working with their tutors in Guidance on revision techniques and study skills as these are very important skills to learn early on in Secondary. Please can you do all you can to support your son/daughter in the build-up to and completion of these assessments. While they are not formal exams, they are a strong indication of current levels and progress. Results will then be released in due course following the assessments and will be formally recorded on the next round of reports.

The exam timetable is detailed below for your convenience. If you have any questions, as always please do not hesitate to contact me.

View from the classroom

As always, a lot of fun and informative learning is taking place in preparation for the upcoming assessments for this term:

Students are learning formulas, referencing and graphs in Spreadsheets within a theme of "Harry Potter" and creating their own spells with formulas and graphs they have learnt so far in the unit.

The learning for this part of the term is on poetry.  Expect budding sonneteers, lyrical mastery and Romantic intentions!

In Art students have started their sculptural project on Henry Moore. Over the past two weeks we have been learning about the proportions of the human body and learning the shading technique used by Moore.

The Year 7 class have been using French to describe their bedroom and where their furniture is.

In Year 7 Mandarin Native group, students are learning about the dragon in Chinese culture. By studying this topic, students made a poster in groups to find out the differences between Chinese culture and Western culture. They have also made presentations to introduce different parts of dragon culture.

Year 7 have been busy using the Sworkit fitness app in PE.
