Celebrating Chinese New Year this Week at NAIS Pudong

02 February 2016

Following our very colourful and cultural CNY Temple Fair on Sunday, the celebrations continue this week in the lead-up to this most important time on the Chinese calendar.

Coming up this week there will be Chinese New Year assemblies across Primary and Secondary led by our Mandarin Department and showcasing the Mandarin skills of our students. Students will also be engaged in special CNY Year of the Monkey activities in their Mandarin classes throughout the week.

This week-long celebration will culminate in our “Chinese Dress-up Day” on Friday where we encourage all students to come to school dressed either in traditional Chinese dress or the colour of the season, red. The day is also a fundraising day for our Service Committee’s Hongbao for a Heart initiative to once again this year raise money to contribute towards lifesaving heart surgery for a child through the Heart to Heart charity. All students who come in special dress on the day are encouraged to contribute 10RMB.

Hongbao for a Heart information will be sent home with the youngest child in each family this Thursday 4th February.

Continuing on the theme, students in Secondary will also be able to preorder Valentine’s Day roses on Friday for 10RMB per flower which will also go towards the Hongbao for a Heart fundraising drive. The flowers will be delivered on the first day of next term, Monday 15th February – a great excuse to extend Valentine’s Day a little longer.
